Equine Wellness
Preventive care is the key to long-term equine health and performance. Annual or bi-annual routine wellness care ensures that horses stay in peak condition, catching potential health concerns early before they become serious. A structured wellness plan can extend your horse’s longevity, improve performance, and prevent costly emergency treatments.

1
What to Expect During An Exam
-
Physical examination: A full physical exam from nose to tail. Examining the eyes, ears, teeth, and legs, checking vital signs, and listening to the heart, lungs, and gut.
-
Dental check: A thorough oral exam will be conducted to ensure teeth are in good condition.
-
Health discussion: The visit is a good time to discuss nutrition, any changes in your horse's behavior or weight, and the best long-term health plan for your horse.
2
Vaccinations
Routine annual/bi-annual vaccines are given and additional risk-based vaccines will be discussed depending on your horse's lifestyle and location.
3
Coggins Test
Equine Infectious Anemia, EIA, is a contagious equine disease that does not have a current vaccine or cure. Horses that become infected will carry the disease for life. An annual negative Coggins test is required for all interstate equine transport and is needed to enter most competition venues.
4
Fecal Exam
Current deworming recommendations utilize a Fecal Egg Count test to customize deworming protocols to the individual horse’s needs. By doing this annually, the deworming frequency is reduced and minimizes parasitic anthelmintic resistance.
5
Sheath Cleaning
Sheath cleaning for males should be performed at least annually, or more often if there are issues like excessive smegma buildup or discomfort.
